Baptism

Baptism of Infants and young children is celebrated on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 2.00pm except at Easter when the Sacrament is celebrated during the Easter Vigil.

Your child’s Baptism should be booked in the Parish Office well in advance of the Baptism.  A meeting for Parents and Godparents is usually hosted by the Baptism Team (see below) and the Priest on Duty on the Monday before the Baptisms at 7.00pm in the Church.

Adults who wish to be Baptised are most welcome to talk to one of the Priests who will accompany them on their journey towards Baptism and full initiation into the Church.

Baptism is one of the Sacraments of Initiation, the others being Confirmation and Eucharist.  Usually, adult candidates for Baptism follow the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

The Parish Baptism Team

The Parish Baptism Team is a group of volunteers in the parish who serve to welcome and support families who have asked for the gift of baptism for their children. Some may also be involved in supporting adults who are preparing to be baptised themselves.

They are a sign that baptism is never just a private family occasion but that the whole parish and the universal Church also share in the rejoicing and responsibilities of having a new disciple.

Members of the Parish Baptism Team help to prepare the family in advance of the day of baptism and they attend the liturgy of baptism itself as a sign of the support of the parish community and the wider Church.  Current members of our Baptism Team are Finola Murphy, Carmel Ryan, Catherine Murray, Fiona Farrell & Antoinette Kearney.
